Scene+ adds Shell as a fuel partner, while Scotiabank tweaks some card fees

Two Scene+ developments worth a cardholder's attention landed recently, and they pull in opposite directions: one expands where you earn, the other is a fee change to keep an eye on.

The good: Shell joins as a fuel partner

Scene+ added Shell Canada as an earning partner. That matters because Scene+ was already one of the more flexible Canadian programs on groceries (Sobeys and FreshCo banners) and travel, but fuel was a gap. Adding a major gas brand turns it into a more complete everyday-earning program, especially paired with a Scene+ credit card.

Link your membership per the program's instructions and pay at participating Shell locations to earn. The exact earn rate and eligible sites are set by Scene+, so confirm the current terms on the official Scene+ site.

The watch item: a Scotiabank notice of change

Separately, Scotiabank issued a notice of change affecting some card fees, with changes noted as effective February 1, 2026. Issuers are required to send these notices, and they can cover anything from a specific fee to account terms. If you carry a Scotiabank card, read the notice in your cardholder communications so you know exactly what changed on your product.

One thing this is not

To be clear, this is a partner-and-fee update, not a redemption devaluation. We found no change to what Scene+ points are worth when you redeem them, and we continue to value Scene+ at roughly 1 cent per point. Earning got a little better; redemption value held.
