Frequently asked

How does the rewards calculator work?
You enter how much you spend each month in categories like groceries, dining, and gas. The calculator looks up every card's earn rate in each category using our cited point valuations, multiplies by your spending, subtracts the annual fee, and ranks cards by net annual value.
Where do the earn rates come from?
From the official issuer product page. Every card in our dataset has earn rules sourced from the issuer's website, not from comparison sites. If a card's earn rate isn't published, we show $0 rather than guessing.
How do you value points?
Each reward currency (Aeroplan, Scene+, Membership Rewards, etc.) has a cited mid-market cents-per-point valuation from our methodology. Cash-back is valued at face value. See our points valuations page for the full list.
What does 'annual net value' mean?
It is your annual rewards (monthly spend per category × earn rate × 12 months) minus the annual fee. Year 1 also adds the welcome bonus value. Welomes are one-time; net value is what you earn year after year.
